Press forward on the knee portion of the tool to stretch the carpet and use a putty knife to tuck the edge of the carpet into the tack strip down in the floor.

Install the transition. Part of the series. Position the strips with the tack points facing the wall. Repeat the process along the entire doorway until no portion of the carpet edge remains visible.

Start with a clean area. As a rule of thumb make sure to install the tack strip for the carpet about 1 4 to 3 8 inches from the edge of the tile. Loosen the carpet from its anchor whether a tack strip or metal cap. Keep a space equal to about two thirds the thickness of the carpet between the walls and the tack strips using a scrap piece of carpet as a guide.

Carpet installation repairs. Mark and cut a piece of carpet tack strip. Install tack strips around door frames but not across the threshold to prevent stepping on the sharp points. Measure the width of the doorway.

Flimsy wood tack strips yield easily to a sharp utility knife so you can replace pieces. Place the carpet tack strip under the carpet about 1 2 inch from the transition point.
